Wherever you look in nature, there is art, whether it is a burl in a tree, a trail left under the bark by an insect, or pebbles on a beach. Through my work I seek to express my impression of nature’s art. I also seek to honour the miracle of how it came to be and why it is there. And, perhaps, the living energy within it.
Some pieces reflect a realistic representation of the imagines I find around me. Small patterns and panoramic scenes appear in my work.
Other pieces are abstract interpretations. The texture, shape and colour of the vessels, for example, are inspired by natural elements like bark or moss. Several creations incorporate twigs, wire and other found items.
Sometimes I am struck by whimsical or spiritual possibilities.
Making felt from wool fibres and then using it to create from seems a natural way to articulate my connection to nature’s art.
